The Admissions and Licensing Committee

The Admissions and Licensing Committee (or ALC), is the independent committee at CILEx Regulation with the responsibility and oversight for individual admissions decisions. They oversee the following application processes:

  • Qualifying Employment
  • Work Based Learning (Admission as a Chartered Legal Executive)
  • Applications for individual practice rights (including Advocacy applications)
  • Apprenticeships assessments

They also oversee the CPD process.

The committee is made up of five members; two professional members (i.e. Chartered Legal Executives) and three lay members. The committee can be chaired by any of its members and is currently chaired by one of the professional members. They meet approximately every eight weeks and have on average six meetings each year.

Their key responsibilities are to:

  • consider applications which cannot be approved by the office
  • hear stage 1 appeals on decisions to refuse an application
  • review policy proposals/changes to application processes
  • oversee CILEx Regulation’s role as the EQA for Chartered Legal Executive Apprenticeships
  • review CPS training and assessment for Associate Prosecutors*
  • review advocacy training and assessment provision*
