Each firm must have adequate insurance, which is known as Professional Indemnity Insurance or PII. The insurance will usually pay out where a client has suffered a loss because their firm made a mistake on their case.
Firms must provide information about their insurance which must include:
- the amount covered by the insurance; and
- the insurer’s name and contact details
Firms should display information about their insurance on their websites. We encourage you to look out for this when you look at a firm’s website.
If a firm does not have a website, they should be happy to provide you with the required information on request.
